Workers’ Compensation

In many states, such as Florida, Ohio and others, Workers’ Compensation is being turned upside down by new regulation. Even those states that have not adopted managed care mandates are studying the Florida and Ohio experiences closely. The employers are finding that regulatory compliance, though highly variable and problematic, can result in huge efficiencies and cost savings. This means opportunity for the provider, employer and payor. Designing a system that maximizes opportunity while being flexible in the face of oncoming regulation requires experience and diligence.

Most health care organizations and employers significantly underestimate the complexity of the workers compensation market. Added issues include: indemnity losses (wages), partial and total disability, work hardening and return to work programs, and OHSA, all which may have both federal and state requirements.

HSD is uniquely qualified to provide guidance in the area of workers’ compensation. HSD consultants have established several successful certified managed care arrangements in Florida and have assisted in the development of several managed workers’ compensation product in other states. We can train medical, operational, MIS, and sales staff to competently approach this market.
