Post-Acute Integration
While managed care focuses on prevention and disease management, the Balanced
Budget Amendment of 1997 has effectively hobbled the home care, hospital, and
nursing home industries, requiring innovation to survive. Even the most effective
preventive care program will not stop the increasing demand for acute AND post
acute services. Thriving acute care providers still find that post acute integration
is a necessary part of their business plan. As Medicare and Medicaid tighten payments
and continue to increase expectations of cost reductions, so too managed care organizations
continue to reward one-stop-shop providers who can reduce costs without disappointing
patients. Ultimately, attracting and keeping more patients is the goal. Only volume
with margins can offset technology investments and development costs.
Successful providers understand the need to maintain patients in a variety of care settings,
under one virtual roof. This virtual networking maximizes expertise at the patient delivery
site. Costs are kept under control through the leverage of shared information, management
and support systems. The goal is satisfied patients and practitioners who work together
to create care plans that maintain patients in the most appropriate setting—which naturally
manages cost, quality and patient safety.
The providers cannot anticipate providing these highly integrated activities without a
robust and competent administrative structure. Understanding the administrative tasks,
transactions, compliance demands and information systems within this environment is a
necessary requirement as is their integration to create a low cost, high functioning
management engine.
We will assess current strengths and opportunities within a provider or network of providers
using both national and internal benchmarks. From these real world capabilities we will
craft a pragmatic development plan to leverage your assets and acquire any missing crucial
functions. We are available to perform interim management and informaion systems selection,
or to undertake credentialling and accreditation on behalf of our clients.
